Hollywood Star Cars For Rent

Volo Auto Museum rents its exhibits.

You have been invited to a backyard black-tie affair and scan the crowd for the A-list.

Is that the Batmobile?

Who’s the old guy standing next to it?

That old guy may or may not be Adam West, portrayer of the caped crusader in the cheeky television show from the 1960s that kids loved for the cartoon brawls and parents loved for the humor in disguise.

West is getting on in years … but the Batmobile looks the same.

Nowadays you can hire Adam West to be the voice on your answering machine and Volo Auto Museum, northwest of Chicago, is renting out the Batmobile and the Batcycle for gigs and parties.

“It’s no secret that celebrities are hired for appearances to draw public and media attention to an event or business, but who says the celebrity has to be human,” said Brian Grams, director of the Volo Auto Museum.  “There are many celebrities of the four-wheel kind that are just as if not more popular than many human celebrities that do these appearances.”

Grams said he has recently started promoting the museum’s exhibits as rentals for parties and promotions.

One television commercial shows the owners of a custom furniture store driving the Batmobile and the Mach 5 from “Speed Racer” on Lake Shore Drive with the Chicago skyline in the background.

Star Cars at Volo Auto Museum that are for hire include:

• Scooby Doo’s Mystery Machine

• The General Lee from the first season of The Dukes of Hazzard

• The “Ghostbusters” car

• Herby, the Volkswagen Beetle, from “The Love Bug”

• Lightning McQueen from the Pixar film “Cars”

• The “Beverly Hillbillies” truck
