VIDEO: Lakeside Festival Kids' Ice Cream Eating Contest

Kids raced to finish cups of ice cream on Saturday afternoon while Chicago Blackhawks' mascot Tommy Hawk mingled with the crowd.

It took the younger kids a bit longer to eat their cups of Kaleidoscoop's ice cream on Saturday at the 33rd Annual Lakeside Festival.

However, the older category of contestants - ages 8 to 12 - had no problem shoveling down their significantly-larger cups of ice cream.

Gretchen Fuerholzer won the 7-and-Under contest, and Natalie DuShane took second place. In the older group, Tim Maguire, of Crystal Lake, took first, and T.J. Grubbs, of McHenry, finished second.

The winners received free monthly servings of ice cream from Kaleidoscoop's, located in downtown Crystal Lake. Chicago Blackhawks' mascot Tommy Hawk entertained on-lookers and tossed a few T-shirts to festival-goers.

Sunday marks the last day of the festival. The Independence Day Parade is scheduled for 1 p.m., and fireworks will be shot off over Crystal Lake at dusk.
