Heat Wave Turns Up the Temps at Local Lakes

What do you think about the warmer water temperatures? Let us know in the comments section.

As temperatures have hovered around the 90-degree mark much of the week for the Chicago area, many area residents have turned to local pools and lakes to cool off.

And it should come as no surprise, the high temperatures have caused a rise in lake temperatures. In McHenry County, some lakes have temperatures reaching well into the 80s, which can feel like "bath water," Gail Weber, laboratory coordinator for the McHenry County Health Department, told the Daily Herald.

Temperatures at beaches along Lake Michigan in Chicago reached as high as 78 degrees on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. The average temperature for Lake Michigan this time of year is 70 degrees, according to the Daily Herald.
