Downtown Famers Market Opens Saturday

Market has a plentiful supply of freshly picked fruits and vegetables, as well as bakery items.

A bounty of freshly picked fruits, vegetables and flowers await you at the 2012 Farmers Market in downtown Crystal Lake. The market, set near the gazebo in Depot Park, opens for the season at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 2.

In addition to the freshly harvested fruits and vegetables, vendors will be selling everything from eggs to meat. The offerings include homemade honey, sweet pastries, cupcakes, maple syrup and pre-bottled olive oils and vinaigrettes, according to the Crystal Lake Downtown Association.

On selected mornings, musicians will provide entertainment for the shoppers, as well.

The market runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m . Saturdays through October. Depot Park is located next to the Metra Rail Station, 70 E. Woodstock St.

Free parking is available in the Metra commuter lots for the Saturday event, according to the Downtown Association website.

The 2012 Crystal Lake Farmers Market Vendors include:

Dawn's Bread / Le Petit Marche - Breads, pastries, and sweets      

El Moleno Azul - Flan, churros, and assorted Mexican breads and cookies

Farmer Nick's - Eggs, beef, pork, chicken, and turkeys.

Harms Farm & Garden Center (FMNP) - Fresh produce from the farm.

Juice Plus - The next best thing to fruits and vegetables; tower garden (hydroponic growing system).

Just One Bite - Cupcakes, cookies, bar cookies, and more.

Lone Oak Farm (FMNP) - Locally grown vegetables, fruit, and flowers.

My Honey Company - Honey, maple syrup, honey candy, and more.

Natural Farm Stand (FMNP) - Certified naturally grown producer at down to earth prices.

The Olive Tap - Pre-bottled olive oils and balsamic vinegars.

Red Barn Farm Market (FMNP) - Fresh vegetables for your family.

Norman Schroeder - Locally grown vegetables, fruit, cut flowers, annuals, and plants.

Note:  The Downtown Crystal Lake Farmers Market is an authorized market participant in the Illinois Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP). Several vendors are authorized to accept WIC and Senior Nutrition checks as noted in parentheses above.
