Crystal Lake Imposes Temporary Ban on Bonfires, Recreational Fires

Dry conditions and lack of rain prompted local fire officials to impose restrictions on recreational fires.

 

Crystal Lake residents are not permitted to have recreational fires and bonfires following recent restrictions imposed due to the extremely dry weather conditions this summer.

The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department posted the restrictions on Thursday, June 28, on the city of Crystal Lake website

"The Fire Rescue Department has issued restrictions to the city’s Open Burning Ordinance due to the unusually dry weather conditions the area is experiencing," the announcement read. "The spread of fire can be increased with the dry vegetation that we have." 

Effective June 28, 2012, the following restrictions have been instituted: 

• No new burn permits will be issued until further notice. 
• Homeowners with a current burn permit will not be allowed to burn until further notice.

Section 307 Open Burning and Recreational Fires 
307.1.1 Prohibited open burning.
 Open burning that is offensive or objectionable because of smoke or odor emissions or when atmospheric conditions or local circumstances make such fires hazardous shall be prohibited.
