CL Park District Campers Participate in Indian Day

Teepee at Veteran Acres Park adds to day campers' experience learning about Native American Indians.

It's not every day one sees a teepee in Crystal Lake.

But, there, standing next to the Rotary Building at Veteran Acres Park - not far from the parking lot and Acorn Alley Splashpad - towers a sizeable replica of the transportable structures used by Native American Indians.

Veteran Acres Park, the crown jewel of the Crystal Lake Park District's nature preserves, is located at the northeast corner of Route 176 and Walkup Road.

The teepee will be used by the Crystal Lake Park District's summer day campers - those kids in fourth and fifth grades. The kids will sit inside the teepee on Indian Day, share stories and learn about Native American Indian life, according to the summer camp leaders.
