Trojans' Roll Past McHenry

Baker scores six times as Cary cruises to 56-13 win.

After a difficult loss to Jacobs last week, needed a strong effort to get back on track against McHenry.

The Trojans did that and more as quarterback Quinn Baker scored five times on the ground and added a sixth touchdown on a pass to Ryan Mahoney as C-G easily defeated the Warriors 56-13.

After a turnover on a lateral by McHenry three minutes into the game, Baker scored from 41 yards out to give Cary a 7-0 lead. Baker scored again three minutes later from three yards out and added a third first-quarter on a one-yard run as C-G ran out to a 21-0 lead after one quarter.

McHenry tried to mount a rally on a nine-yard touchdown run by Robert Tonyan six seconds into the second quarter but Baker responded three minutes later on a 13-yard run of his own. Baker connected with Mahoney from 24 yards out with 6:16 to go in the half and backup quarterback Corey Laktas scored a 38-yard touchdown 44 seconds left and Cary led 42-6 before halftime.

Baker scored his sixth and final touchdown with 8:43 to play in the third quarter on a one-yard run which began a running clock and sent most of the crowd home. Marcus Thimios scored a 14-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter for Cary's final score on the night as the Trojans improved to 4-2 overall and 1-2 in the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division. Baker said that the team had a simple game plan after last week's defeat.

"That loss last week hurt, any loss hurts," Baker said. We took our time all week and decided we were going to drive the ball and do what we do and we really took out our aggression and it showed."

Baker has scored 10 touchdowns over the last two home games for Cary and words couldn't truly describe his thoughts on that achievement.

"It is a surprise, a pleasant surprise," Baker said. "It's really fun especially at home."

Cary coach Brad Seaburg said his team played the way they needed to.

"We executed well on both sides of the ball," Seaburg said. "It was very good execution just like we had emphasized all week."

The Trojans will try to make it two in a row next week at Huntley.
