The Week in Cary-Grove Athletics

A look back at the week gone by in Trojans' sports.

A shortened week for Cary-Grove athletics last week with prom weekend, meaning no games on Friday or Saturday.

Here’s a look at what happened over the four days of competition last week.

Cary-Grove’s softball team started their week Monday with a 3-0 win over Crystal Lake South as struck out nine in getting the win.

The Trojans added an 18-2 win at Dundee-Crown on Tuesday, scoring 16 times in the sixth inning. Efflandt added a 12-strikeout effort on Wednesday in a 8-1 victory over Grayslake Central as Lisa Semro had three hits including a double and two RBIs. The win was the 20th of the season for Cary in improving to 20-1.

Cary’s baseball team opened their weekly schedule with a 12-2 win against Crystal Lake Central led by two home runs each from Alex Posey and Michael Vilardo. Cary added another five-inning win via the 10-run rule on Tuesday with a 10-0 win over Prairie Ridge. The Trojans only had five hits in the win.

C-G finished their week with a 2-0 home win over Wauconda. Daniel Vilardo had two hits and John Spoelstra pitched two innings for the win as Cary improved to 16-7 on the season.

C-G’s girls’ soccer team scored a 4-1 win over Dundee-Crown Tuesday on the road as Korey Kronforst scored and had an assist in the win. The Trojans' added a 6-0 win over Woodstock Thursday night as Kronforst and Alli Budreck each scored twice. Cary improved to 11-7-1 on the season with the win.

The Cary boys tennis team started strong on Tuesday with a 7-0 sweep of Woodstock and followed that up with a 6-1 win over Dundee-Crown on Wednesday and a 7-0 win over Woodstock North as the Trojans improved to 8-4 in Fox Valley Conference dual meets.

The Trojans' girls track team won their home quadrangular Monday over Crystal Lake Central, Prairie Ridge and Jacobs with Carly Loeffel winning the high jump. On Thursday, the Trojans' won the Fox Valley Conference meet at Crystal Lake South.

Sarah Ryan won three events to lead C-G while Loeffel added a win in the high jump. Cary’s boys track team finished third at the Jacobs Triangular Monday as Josh Freeman won the discus.
