The Week in Cary-Grove Athletics

A look at what happened over the past week in Trojan sports...

The Cary-Grove baseball team fell on Monday to Grayslake Central 5-2, as Alex Posey had two hits and a RBI.

Alex Wians, Matt Byrne, and each had two RBIs on Tuesday as Cary defeated Grayslake North 14-4. On Wednesday, Cary faced off with Grayslake North again with similar results in a 10-2 win.

Vilardo continued his hot streak at the plate, hitting two more home runs while Matt Panek homered, had three RBIs and struck out 12 in throwing a complete game.

Cary finished their week with an 11-1 win over Crystal Lake Central as Tyler Lau homered twice and had five RBIs. Cary heads into the week with a 13-7 record on the season.

Cary’s softball team opened the week with a win Monday against Huntley, 14-4, which was led by home runs from Emma Gaulke and Lisa Semro. The Trojans rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Wednesday to defeat Jacobs 3-2.

hit a two-run homer to give Cary the lead. On Thursday, Gaulke added a three-run triple to her weekly output in a 10-0 win over Dundee-Crown.

Semro had four RBIs while Sara Markelonis added three RBIs as the Trojans finished their week with a 15-0 win over McHenry to improve to 17-1 on the season.

The Trojan girls soccer team started the week with a 2-0 win over Grayslake North.

Mary Schneider and Jae Jay Usab each scored for Cary. Korey Kronforst scored Cary’s lone goal on Thursday night as the Trojans fell to Huntley 3-1 and come into the week with a 9-7-1 record.

Cary-Grove’s boys’ tennis team opened their week on Tuesday with a 7-0 win over Huntley and followed that with a 4-3 loss to Crystal Lake Central on Wednesday. and Michael Robinson won singles matches for the Trojans.

Cary-Grove’s boys’ track team finished second Monday at the Crystal Lake Central Quadrangular behind the host Tigers. Josh Freeman continued his winning ways in the shot put and discus while Anthony Golowach won the high jump and 200 meters.
