The Week in Cary-Grove Athletics

A look at what went on for the Trojans' over the past week.

It has been a busy week for the Cary-Grove Trojans' as the spring sports season gets into full swing with every sport in action.

Here’s a look at what happened this week for C-G….

Cary’s softball team came off a two-week break due to weather and Spring Break to have a 4-1 week led by a 13-3 win on Monday against Johnsburg where pitcher Lindsay Efflandt struck out nine while also hitting a home run and knocking in four runs.

The Trojans' defeated CL Central 7-0 on Tuesday and went to the Prairie Ridge Invitational on Saturday looking for three more victories.

Cary went 2-1 with a 6-4 loss to Elgin before defeating Grant 15-0 and Prairie Ridge 5-2 to improve to 7-1 on the season. The Saturday games were just the third, fourth and fifth played by the team over the past three weeks.

Cary-Grove’s baseball team opened their week of play with two commanding wins over Johnsburg, scoring an 11-1 win Tuesday and a 14-1 win Thursday against the Skyhawks.

After a rainout on Friday, C-G played  a doubleheader against Jacobs Saturday and came away with two victories including a come-from-behind 8-7 win in the opening game where the Trojans scored five times in the bottom of the seventh to win before winning game two 9-6.

Alex Posey had five RBIs on the day Saturday as Cary improved to 7-3 overall and 4-0 in the Fox Valley Conference.

The C-G girls soccer team lost their opening match of the week to CL South 2-0 on Tuesday before bouncing back for a 5-2 win over McHenry Thursday on the strength of three goals by Korey Kronforst to improve Cary to 6-5 on the year.

The Trojan boys tennis team had a solid week with a 4-3 win over Conant on Monday and a 6-1 win over McHenry at home on Thursday.

On Saturday at the Hersey Invitational, and Owen Russell each went 3-0 as Cary went 1-2 on the afternoon with a win against Hersey 6-1 to go with a 4-3 loss to York and a 5-2 loss to Prospect.

C-G’s boys’ track team finished second at their own triangular Tuesday, falling to Fox Valley Conference rival Dundee-Crown and hosted the Al Bohrer Invitational on Saturday.

Josh Freeman won the discus and shot put while Anthony Golowach took the high jump and also won the 200 and 400 meter dash.

It was the second win of the week for Golowach in the high jump and for Freeman in the discus and shot put as both look to be serious contenders towards the state meet.

Cary’s girls’ track team won the Huntley Triangular Tuesday winning ten events in defeating Huntley and Johnsburg.  On Saturday, Carly Loeffel won three events (high jump, long jump and 400 meters) at the Buffalo Grove Invitational as Cary finished second in the eight-team event.
