Rogers Lights Up Prairie Ridge in South Win

Crystal Lake South senior hits seven 3-pointers in win.

He actually saved his best shot of the night until the final seconds before halftime. That's when senior Kevin Rogers drilled in a 3-pointer from 30 feet out. It was halftime at CLS on Saturday night and Rogers had 20 of his team's 34 points.

Rogers would finish with 30 points in South's 66-46 romp over Prairie Ridge.

"He got a lot of open looks, didn't he?'' said coach Corky Card.

Of course on the other bench, they have seen Rogers act before. After all, as a junior he paced the Gators in three-point shooting.

"He's a really good shooter,'' said CLS coach Dan DeBruycker. "Our guys did a good job of finding him. He does have the green light to shoot it."

On a pair of buckets from James Stawarz, the Wolves (1-4) opened a quick 4-0 lead. And that would be the only time Prairie Ridge led in the game. On Rogers' first 3-pointer of the night, it was 11-4 Gators.

"We've had five practices with the football players,'' Card said. "But our kids played hard tonight."

The second quarter belonged to Rogers. He had 14 of his points in this quarter alone. That barrage included four 3-pointers and a driving layup.

The Gators (3-2) welcomed back point guard Ethan Brietenstein to the lineup, who helped out with 10 points.

"Ethan and the rest of the guys are all capable scorers,'' DeBruycker said.

Gavin Rubin added 8 points for South. The Wolves had a strong floor game from Sean Valentine (20 points).

"Valentine can shoot and he can drive, too,'' Card said. "He also can create shots."

Stawarz added 15 points to the Wolves attack.

Prairie Ridge's schedule slows down with two games in two weeks. On Friday, the Wolves play Dundee-Crown.  The Gators also play Friday against Woodstock.
