Rivalry Game Goes to South in a Shutout; Prairie Ridge Routs Mundelein

Next week's Cary-Grove-Crystal Lake South game should be a good one

graduate Rob Elgas probably didn't like the results from last Friday night's defensive struggle at his home school. But the NBC newsman sure was pleased that his town was the winner of NBC's Prep Destination of the week.

More than 16,000 votes on Facebook won this prize in a tight race with Brother Rice-Marist.

What fans were treated to on Friday was a game of little offense. Or maybe plenty of good defense.

will take it's unbeaten 2-0 mark to Cary-Grove on Friday night. That's where it's defense will be tested again as Cary-Grove is fresh off knocking off a very good Lake Zurich squad.

So who will be favored when CLS heads for Cary? No doubt it will be a busy week for the team's offenses. That's because they both have to figure out a way to put points on the board.

South has surrendered an average of three points a game in its first two games.

Cary is slightly behind that at 3.5. In the win over Lake Zurich on Friday, the hometown Bears didn't score until late in the game. That's the same Lake Zurich team that scored 35 points the week before.

Much was made of running back Gage Harrah's hit on South quarterback Austin Fowler. A personal foul was called as Fowler had to be taken off the field.

Was it a dirty play? Was it just in the heat of the battle? Was it just a hard football tackle?

Football is a tough game. Players can bend the rules sometimes when the game gets heated. It's kind of sad.

Harrah's dismissal from the game means he won't play in next week's game. Hopefully, Fowler will play against Cary.

At Prairie Ridge: An upset in Mundelein wasn't in the cards. is a very good football team and frankly, Mundelein is not a good team.

It didn't take long for this game to get out of hand. Jordan Getzelman scored on a 40-yard dash and the romp was on. It was a 47-2 final.

The Wolves get a bigger test come Friday night when they hit the road again. This time it's at Huntley (7:15 p.m.).
