Meyer’s Season Ends at State Wrestling Meet
Cary-Grove's lone wrestler at the state meet is eliminated in the first round.
After capturing first place in the 130 pound division in the , hopes were high for a strong performance from Cary-Grove senior Corey Meyer at the IHSA 3A state wrestling tournament, but things didn’t go as planned when the wrestler fell in the first round.
Meyer (29-9) looked to continue his dominating run for state wrestling supremacy and was poised for a deep run; especially after he took back-to-back first place finishes in the Algonquin Regional and Barrington Sectional.
He had a tough opening round draw at Champaign and needed to face the third ranked wrestler in the state in the 130-pound category, senior Jimmy Nehls of Downers Grove North.

Nehls (40-5) would be as problematic for Meyer, as he battled to an unfortunate 7-2 decision.
The early first round exit was not only a disappointing way to end a great wrestling season, but also meant the Meyer would not qualify for wrestle backs, ending any hopes to place at the state's tournament.
