MCC Men's Tennis Looks to Continue Fight

Team blasts Rockford College with new roster.

Coming off of a season where the team’s No. 1 singles player dominated NJCAA Region 4 with a two-year undefeated conference and regional record—while qualifying for the national tournament in Texas—the men’s tennis team “marched” into a new season March 17 and whipped Rockford.

The Scots beat Rockford College 9-0 on the “green” hard courts at the Crystal Lake Racket Club.

The Scots lost their top two players from last season in Craig Greenwald and Jon Frantz. Fratz played as a doubles team at the 2011 NJCAA national tournament, while Greenwald also participated, as the NJCAA Region 4 champion, in the singles division. MCC co-head coach Jeff Pierscionek is optimistic however about the team’s chances this year.

“We are returning two players, Jake Rogers (McHenry West) and Taylor Irish Morrobel (Crystal Lake South) who have improved from last season and will provide leadership and experience to the team,” Pierscionek said.

The team will add NCAA Division I reverse transfers Matt Miller and Dylan Clark along with Jack Hogan and Jonathan Escutia to the roster this year. Pierscionek added that the additions will definitely help the team in a tough Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference and NJCAA Region 4.

“This group will provide strong depth to our lineup and we should be able to compete at a high level against our ISC Conference opponents,” Pierscionek said. “These players have worked hard on their fitness and tennis, in the pre-season, and are dedicated to be the best they can be.”

The Scots open ISCC play on April 3 at Oakton Community College.
