MCC Men Beat Oakton, Women Continue Slide

Men use big run to end losing streak.

Looking to break a three-game losing streak, men’s basketball team looked for a season sweep of Oakton Community College in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference play.

MCC fell behind early but scored 17 straight points midway through the first half and would lead by as much as 25 in both the first and second half in a 78-72 win.

Mershon Wilkes led MCC (10-12, 4-4) with 19 points and seven rebounds while DeShawn Wash added 15. Eric Wilde scored 14 and Marcus Marshall had 10 points to complete the four double-figure scorers for MCC on the night.

The Scots will take to the road with a trip to Moraine Valley Community College at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Scots Women Fall in ISCC Action

Beginning the second round of Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference play Tuesday night, McHenry County College’s women’s basketball team looked for a victory at home against Oakton Community College.

The Scots rallied from a nine-point first half deficit to take the lead but couldn’t hold off Oakton in a 73-55 loss.

After being outscored 11-2 in the early few minutes, MCC (2-22, 0-8) went on a 13-3 run to take a 15-14 advantage midway through the first half but Oakton quickly responded and the Scots couldn’t regain the lead.

Chrishaya Dixon scored 18 points to lead MCC while Alyssa Haayer had 16 points and 10 rebounds in the loss. Jerrica Graham added 10 for MCC, who will hit the road to face Moraine Valley Community College at 5 p.m. Thursday.
