MCC Hoops Teams Fall to South Suburban

Bulldogs too much for Scots in blowout losses.

On the night where inducted former baseball player Tony Bacci into the Hall of Fame, MCC men’s basketball team tried to stop the No. 2 team in Division II at home against undefeated South Suburban College.

The Scots (6-8) were able to hang with the Bulldogs (16-0) for the first 30 minutes of the game, staying within striking distance but would fall 81-57.

LeBarron Hull scored 16 points to lead MCC while Eric Wilde added 13 and DeShawn Wash and Mershon Wilkes each had 10 points.

MCC will play in the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference Tip-Off Classic at noon Saturday at Elgin Community College against Oakton Community College.

Women Fall As Well

Starting the 2012 calendar year, McHenry County College’s women’s basketball team looked for a new start at home against South Suburban College.

The Scots kept the game close in the first half but couldn’t stay with South Suburban in the second half during a 75-37 loss. MCC (2-12) trailed by 20 late in the first half before an 8-0 run before the break pulled the Scots within 12 at 39-27.

However, a 16-2 run by South Suburban during the first five minutes of the second half put the Scots away.

Alyssa Haayer led MCC with 21 points while Chrishaya Dixon added 10 in the loss.

MCC will hit the road to play Highland Community College in Freeport at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
