MCC Hoops Struggling Heading into Holiday Break

Both teams take on Sandburg before holiday break.

With the Christmas holiday approaching, ’s basketball teams are finishing up their 2011 calendar year schedules.

Here’s a look at how the Scots did over the past week…

Men’s Basketball: The Scots had a rough week finishing their long homestand losing to St. Clair Community College 69-61 Saturday before a 71-54 defeat on Tuesday night to Blackhawk College. The losses dropped MCC to 5-7 on the season with a game at Sandburg College (4-10) in Galesburg Thursday night before taking a holiday break.

Jemell Kent and Mershon Wilkes each scored 12 points to lead MCC against St. Clair while LeBarron Hull had 19 points to pace the Scots against Blackhawk.

After the long break, MCC will host South Suburban College on Jan. 3. South Suburban is 14-0 on the season.

Women’s Basketball:  As with the men, the Lady Scots lost both of their games this week with a 100-47 loss to St. Clair Saturday and an 85-39 loss to Blackhawk on Tuesday.

The losses drop MCC to 2-10 on the year with a game at Sandburg (2-9) on Thursday night.

Alyssa Haayer continues to lead MCC, scoring 17 points against St. Clair and against Blackhawk.

After the break, South Suburban (12-2) will visit MCC’s Tartan Gym.
