MCC Hoops Look to Second Half

Women still searching for first conference victory.

The first half of the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference season comes to an end this weekend and here’s a look at how basketball teams fared over the past week:

Men’s Basketball

MCC improved to 3-1 in the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference with an 85-73 win against Morton College at home Thursday.Mershon Wilkes had 22 points while LeBarron Hull added 20 in the win for the Scots.

MCC went to the College of Lake County Tuesday and fell 90-68 to the Lancers. Wilkes scored 23 points to pace MCC while DeShawn Wash added 10 points. Wilkes was averaging 16.8 points a game coming into the game at Lake County.

MCC (9-10, 3-2) will travel to Waubonsee Community College (14-6, 4-1) at 7:15 p.m. Thursday before coming home to host Elgin Community College (9-10, 3-2) at 1 p.m. Saturday and then Oakton Community College (4-16, 1-4) at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Women’s Basketball

MCC looked for their first win of the conference season last Thursday at home against Morton College. The Scots fell behind early on and lost 82-45. Alyssa Haayer had 15 points and 16 rebounds for MCC.

The Scots ended their week on Tuesday with a 59-46 loss at the College of Lake County. Chrishaya Dixon had 13 points to lead MCC (2-19, 0-5) while Haayer added 12 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.

Haayer ranked 10th in the conference in scoring during conference play at 12.8 points per game.

MCC has three games this week starting with a trip to Waubonsee (8-12, 2-3) at 5:15 p.m. Thursday which will be followed by two home games. Elgin Community College (13-5, 5-0) comes to Tartan Gym at 1 p.m. Saturday before Oakton (14-5, 3-2) comes to at 5:15 p.m. next Tuesday.
