Jakubicek Coming Out of Sister's Shadow

Olivia Jakubicek talks about becoming the star of Cary-Grove's girls' team after the graduation of her sister Claire.

When graduated after last season as , there was one person that knew that they would have a much bigger role in Jakubicek’s sister Olivia.

This season has picked up the slack left behind as the Trojans are 10-5 and 4-0 in the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division to hold the lead presently. Jakubicek said that she is starting to get out for under the shadow that her sister left behind.

“We’re both different people and different players but I think I am,” Jakubicek said. “She influenced my basketball playing a lot and I’m using her as a huge example of how I want to succeed also. I think I’m taking it to a new level as well.”

Jakubicek was named to the All-Tournament team at the Lake Zurich Turkey Thriller at Thanksgiving and also at the Mundelein Holiday Tournament after having 16.5 points a game in the tournament. One thing that Jakubicek will now get to think about as her junior year continues is college choices and the recruitment process that her sister was all too familiar with before deciding to play at Northern Illinois. Jakubicek added that she planned to use her sister’s experience to assist her.

“Being the first kid to go through that was probably scary,” Jakubicek said. “It’s really reassuring to hear her advice and her tips, giving guidance to her little sister.”
