Ice Conditions Promising for 2014 Chili Open Golf Classic

After several years of cancelation due to too warm of weather, the Chili Open Golf Classic appears to have a shot at returning this Saturday.

After several years of cancellations due to poor ice conditions, Mother Nature has provided seemingly favorable weather for the 2014 Chili Open Golf Classic.

Crystal Lake Park District workers began prepping for the 42nd Classic this past Friday, and will create a challenging 9-hole, Par 32 course on the surface of a very cold, frozen Crystal Lake.

The action starts at 8 a.m. this Saturday, Jan. 18. Main Beach, located at 300 Lakeshore Dr., Crystal Lake, will serve as the starting area.

The Chili Open Golf Classic has been a favorite winter past-time in the city for years. If your golf game is lacking, no worries. The outing is open to talent of all levels. Just bring a few short irons, a putter and three friends and enjoy the day.

All foursomes will receive a great giveaway, one bowl of chili and the chance to win several prizes. This year's prize arsenal includes golf bags, clubs, apparel, and gift cards.

Decorate a sled and enter the Chili Open "Best Sled" contest for a chance to win even more great golf prizes.  Painted golf balls, prizes and side games are provided to all golfers.

Tee times begin at 8 am and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The registration fee for the Chili Open is $115 per team (foursome). Register online at www.crystallakeparks.org and use program code 1405-0. Office hours are 8:30 am-5 pm Monday-Friday.
