Crystal Lake, Cary Track Athletes Qualify for State

Cary-Grove High School placed second overall at the sectional meet in Belvidere last week.

Several local girls track and field athletes will be headed to the state meet at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston this Thursday through Saturday. 

The Cary-Grove High School girls track team placed second overall at the Belvidere (North) girls sectional track and field meet on May 9 with 75 points. Rockton Hononegah came in first place with 85 points while Huntley High School came in third place and Jacobs High School placed fourth at the meet, according to preliminary results posted on the IHSA website.

Crystal Lake Central's Celeste Madda placed first and qualified for state in the 100-meter dash, finishing with a time of 12.57 seconds. Madda, a junior at Crystal Lake Central, also placed first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.56 seconds, according to the IHSA website.

Claire Dalman, a junior at Crystal Lake Central, placed first in the pole vault at the sectional meet with a mark of 10-09.00.

Here is a full list of local girls who qualified for the upcoming state meet: 

Cary-Grove High School 

  • Faith Furio, junior, placed second in the long jump with a mark of 17-03.5
  • Erika Sternard, junior, qualified for state in the high jump with a mark of 5-03.00
  • Joslyn Nicholson, senior, placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 37-01.50
  • Nikki Freeman, freshman, placed second in the discuss throw with a mark of 128-02
  • Olivia Roehri, sophomore, qualified for state with a mark of 126-05
  • The 4x200-meter relay team placed second with a time of 1:46.50

Crystal Lake Central High School

  • Claire Dalman, junior, placed first in the pole vault with a mark of 10-09.00
  • Celeste Madda, junior, placed first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.57; placed first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.56

Prairie Ridge High School 

  • Alexis Strom, junior, placed second in the pole vault with a mark of 10-03.00
  • Amanda Weber, senior, placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.40
