Central's Defense Stops Prairie Ridge

Rival girls basketball teams met at Central on Tuesday night.

Matt Timmerman may have a tough decision ahead of him. While the cheerleaders come out at halftime, he may just have his players sitting on the bench watching.

The Wolves (3-8) trailed Crystal Lake Central 24-20 at halftime on Tuesday night. And then the dreaded third quarter opened for PR. When it was over, Central held a 35-23 lead.

Erin Frazier had 10 points. Nelle Youel and Brittney York added 9 points each. Central beat its rival 44-33 in the first meeting of these clubs this season.

"I don't think my halftime speech is that deflating,'' Timmerman said. "We just may have to talk on the bench. We are better than we are playing."

Timmerman recalled one big shot that hurt his team at the end of the half. It was a three-pointer from Jackie Kisman.

"That was a kick to the stomach,'' he said.

Kisman supplied 7 points and added 6 rebounds.

coach Matt LePage gave his defense much of the credit for the win.

"We played great half-court defense,'' LePage said. "We also had 15 points off the bench which was a huge boost for us."

The winning Tigers (6-5) shot well from the floor hitting 45 percent on 33 attempts and 5 of 8 from three-point range.

Emily Bruksch led a balanced PR attack with 8 points. Haley Ljunggren helped with 7 points. Marisa Gerstbrein added 6 points.

After two more days of practice, the Wolves head back to the Mundelein Tournament with a 1:30 game against Lake Park on Saturday.

The Tigers head to the Marengo Tournament beginning Friday night.
