A look at the week in Trojans athletics

Here’s a look at the week in Cary-Grove athletics….

Football: It was the last game of the regular season Friday night for C-G, looking to end Prairie Ridge’s perfect season. The Trojans did just that with a 22-21 overtime win to finish the season at 7-2. Ryan Mahoney scored the two-point conversion in overtime for the victory. Quinn Baker had 140 yards rushing to lead Cary, who have the No. 6 seed in the northern bracket of the Class 6A bracket and will play at home against No. 11 seed Crystal Lake Central this weekend.

Volleyball: The Trojans opened their week on Tuesday with a two-game victory over Dundee-Crown to get their 30th win of the season. Ashley Rosch had nine kills and eight digs for C-G. On Thursday, it was Cary’s final regular season home game and the Trojans rallied for a three-game victory over Prairie Ridge. Rosch had 16 kills to lead Cary, who begin Class 4A Regional play on Tuesday.

Boys Soccer: Wednesday night opened regional play for Cary, who responded with a 3-0 win over Barrington. Kevin Wilde scored twice in the victory. On Saturday in the regional final against Lake Zurich, the Trojans fell 2-1 in penalty kicks to end their season at 17-3. Mike McKune had the lone goal for C-G in the loss.

Girls Tennis: Beth Hughes and Arley Bayer played in the state tournament on Thursday and Friday, going 1-1 with a three-set victory in their first round match over a team from Dunlap before losing in straight sets to Edwardsville.

Boys Cross Country: The Trojans were at the Class 3A Palatine Regional Saturday morning with Dustin Throw and Dan Sikora each advancing individually to next week’s sectional. The team finished ninth overall.

Girls Cross Country: Cary advanced as a team to next week’s Schaumburg Sectional, finishing fourth overall. Talia Duzey finished tenth overall to pace the Trojans.
