Riverside Chocolate Factory is Sweet Addition to Downtown Crystal Lake

Homemade chocolate is big business for this new business in Crystal Lake: Riverside Chocolate Factory.

In honor of Small Business Saturday on Nov. 30, Crystal Lake-Cary Patch is featuring unique and local businesses in our own neighborhood.

By supporting small local businesses, you support everything that's great about our communities. And the best part is the money that's spent here, stays here.

So, this Nov 30 (and the rest of the holiday season), don't forget to "Get Out and Shop Small."

Riverside Chocolate Factory

2 N. Williams St., Crystal Lake
Opened May 2013

Chocolate covered bacon. Where else can you find such a treat?

Step inside Riverside Chocolate Factory at 2 N. Williams St. in Crystal Lake and you'll immediately see why this little chocolate haven is a sweet addition to the downtown scene.

Using its own recipes and selection of chocolate, Riverside creates homemade fudge, toffee, turtles, peanut brittle, mint melt-aways, mini chocolate shaped turkeys, and a few surprise offerings (like the chocolate covered bacon).

The shop also serves ice cream created by the Chocolate Shoppe in Madison, Wis. and nostalgic candy like NECCO wafers, Mary Jane candy, Big League Chew, Razzles and the like.

"We had been looking to expand from our McHenry location for quite some time," said manager Linsey Lonergan. "When the Antique Mall reached out to us, it seemed like the perfect fit."

Riverside has been making chocolate treats for the past 27 years at its McHenry location at 2102 Route 120.
