Weather-Related School, Work Cancellations for Area

After-school and evening activities are being cancelled due to the weather.

Area school districts are cancelling after-school activities and some businesses are closing early as heavy snow blankets McHenry County this afternoon. 

A winter storm warning is in effect for McHenry County through midnight tonight. Snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are likely with higher amounts possible in isolated areas. 

Cancellations/Closures: 

Below is a list of closings and cancellations for the area as of 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7. Patch.com will continue to update as more information becomes available.

McHenry County College's campus is closed. Evening classes are cancelled for Thursday, Feb. 7

District 47 and District 155 have cancelled all after-school and evening activities for Thursday, Feb. 7. This includes all three District 155 high school orientations that had been scheduled for this evening for the district's incoming eighth graders. District 158 has cancelled all after-school activities for Thursday, Feb. 7, according to the district's website. 

Elite Laser and Skin Spa, 1482 Merchant Drive in Algonquin, closed early Thursday due to the winter weather, according a status update posted on the business's Facebook page at 2 p.m. Thursday. 

First Institute, 790 McHenry Ave. in Crystal Lake, has closed for the day. 

Montini Catholic School in McHenry has cancelled all after-school activities, including tournaments. 

District 200 schools in Woodstock have cancelled all afternoon and after-school activities.

Cary School District 26 has cancelled all after-school activities. The Springfield Meeting has been rescheduled Feb. 14 from 7 to 8 p.m.

Fox River Grove School District 3 has cancelled all after-school activities.

The village of Huntley has cancelled its Feb. 7 Committee of the Whole/Joint Planning Commission meeting. 

Dolphin Swim Club in Crystal Lake is closing early at 5 p.m. Thursday.

District 300 has posted the following information regarding Thursday cancellations. 

  • Algonquin Middle - All after-school activities are cancelled, as well as basketball and musical practice.
  • Carpentersville Middle - All after school activities are cancelled.
  • deLacey Family Education Center - No information available at this time
  • Dundee-Crown High School - All D-CHS activities are cancelled.  Practices should end around 4:00.  Our Indoor Girls Track Meet at D-C , and Boys & Girls Track practice has been cancelled, and the weight room that has been open after school has been cancelled.
  • Dundee Middle - All after school activities are cancelled.
  • Golfview Elementary: All SES and adult programs cancelled tonight and all school sponsored programs tonight are cancelled tonight. We still have Boys and Girls Club and Literacy Connection until 6:00 p.m.
  • Hampshire Elementary: No information available at this time
  • Hampshire Middle: Girl’s Basketball games and all other after-school activities are cancelled. 
  • Hampshire High School: All after school activities are cancelled for this evening and HHS has cancelled our girls’ basketball game and all practices will be completed by 4:00 p.m.
  • I-LEARN Night Program: All classes are cancelled
  • Jacobs High School: All after school activities are cancelled for this evening, February 7
  • Lake in the Hills Elementary: No information available at this time 
  • Lakewood School - All after school activities have been cancelled with the exception of Boys and Girls Club students with parent pick up.
  • Liberty Elementary: Liberty is cancelling Lego League.
