University News: Local Students Selected to Sports Teams, Bands, Committees

Crystal Lake and Cary students have been named to university sports teams, bands and committees. 

Pete Friske, of Crystal Lake, Selected to U. of W-Whitewater Symphony

WHITEWATER, Wis. Nov. 8, 2013- Pete Friske, a senior music major from Crystal Lake, has been selected as a member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 2013-14 Symphony Orchestra.

The Whitewater Symphony Orchestra is one of the largest ensembles on campus. It features students of all majors who undergo a two-day audition process at the beginning of the fall semester.

Sarah Sparber, of Crystal Lake, Named UW-Whitewater Global Ambassador

WHITEWATER, Wis. Nov. 8, 2013 -  Sarah Sparber, a junior Spanish education major from Crystal Lake, has been named a 2013-14 Global Ambassador at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

The ambassadors help students from 37 different countries become more comfortable with campus life.

Nicole Daniel, of Cary, Selected for Harding University Jazz Band

SEARCY, Arkansas, Nov. 8, 2013 - Nicole Daniel, an English major from Cary has been selected for the 2013-14 jazz band. Daniel also was selected for the 2013-14 Harding University Thundering Herd marching band.

Harding is the largest private university in Arkansas with 6,295 students.

Nicholas Bertino, of Crystal Lake, Selected to UW-Whitewater Symphonic Wind Ensemble

WHITEWATER, Wis., Nov. 7, 2013. Nicholas Bertino, a freshman music major from Crystal Lake, has been selected as a member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 2013-14 Symphonic Wind Ensemble.

The Symphonic Wind Ensemble is the premier concert band on campus, made up of musicians specializing in woodwinds, brass and percussion instruments. After a two-day audition process at the beginning of the fall semester, players are chosen and practice begins.

Kaelyn Terry, of Crystal Lake, Named to Homecoming Steering Committee

WHITEWATER, Wis. Oct. 17, 2013.  Kaelyn Terry, a senior human resource management major from Crystal Lake, was named to the 2013 Homecoming Steering Committee at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

"Members of the Homecoming Steering Committee plan more than 10 events for undergraduate students at UW-Whitewater," said Clarksen. "This eight-month commitment includes everything from selecting the events to planning them to running them safely."

Cameron Laktash, of Crystal Lake, Makes UW-Whitewater Men's Tennis Team

WHITEWATER, Wis. Sept. 26, 3013. Cameron Laktash, a sophomore physical education major from Crystal Lake, made the 2013-14 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team.

Joseph Bichler, of Crystal Lake, Named UW-Whitewater Peer Mentor

WHITEWATER, Wis. Sept. 29, 2013. Joseph Bichler, a senior accounting and finance major from Crystal Lake, has been trained and certified as a University of Wisconsin-Whitewater peer mentor for the 2013-14 academic year.

Each UW-Whitewater peer mentor is assigned a group of new students to help them get comfortable with campus, participate in activities and build relationships.

Jessica Stumpner, of Crystal Lake, Named to Wisconsin Lutheran College Women's Cross Country Team

Rachel Siemon, of Crystal Lake, Selected to UW-Whitewater Women's Tennis Team

WHITEWATER, Wis. Sept. 26, 2013. Rachel Siemon, a freshman history major from Crystal Lake, made the 2013-14 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team.

Jon Friedline, of Cary, Named to Wisconsin Lutheran College Football Team
