Students May Not Walk At Graduation After Slip 'N Side Senior Prank

Jacobs High School officials are reviewing video footage following a senior prank Thursday to decide whether students who set up a makeshift Slip 'N Slide in the school's hallway should be allowed to walk with their class at graduation, according to the Daily Herald.

On Thursday, between sixth and seventh periods, a group of students dumped water, dishwashing soap, baby oil and laundry soap on the floor of an upstairs hallway and then used a tarp to slide over it, according to the article. The Daily Herald reports the students would still receive their diplomas even if they do not walk at graduation.

Yes, stupid prank., Yes, stupid comments re kids should maybe get hurt. Yes, stupid punishment. These kids will not have learned a thing if they are not allowed to walk. A smarter punishment would be to make the kids actually clean the floors (not just the floor where they spilled the oil) - say on a friday or saturday night - with detergent (which I believe is the correct chemical to counteract oil/grease) and or whatever will make the floors clean and safe once again.

I think it is a mistake to punish by not letting them walk. In the real world, which they have been preparing for all these years, there is a price to pay. It is part of being accountable. Either let them clean it up or let them pay the cost for someone else to clean it up.

I agree they need to be held responsible but let them walk for graduation and require them to do work at the school during the summer.
