Brower’s commitment to the local community balanced with her schooling made her a worthy recipient of the award, according to a release by the Jaycees. She will be attending Marquette University in Milwaukee in the fall.

The scholarship is named in honor of Crystal Lake resident Thomas Burleson and his family. In 1999, a drunk driver struck Burleson and his family. Burleson survived, but his wife Eva, 34, and three children, died in the car accident.
