CL Central High School students displayed their school spirit by donning an array of colorful costumes and presenting an impressive coalition of parade floats on Friday afternoon.

Crystal Lake Central's Homecoming 2012 theme is "Super Heroes," and the student body did a super job bringing that theme to life Friday for the annual homecoming parade.

Students decked out in orange, black and plenty of capes hurried about the Central school grounds preparing to march in the parade, which started at 4 p.m. Friday and weaved through downtown Crystal Lake.

There were plenty of villians as well - Joker, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze and the Penguin on one float. Super hero Spiderman, with plenty of webbing (thanks to the upcoming Halloween holiday) and Batman were on the scene as well.

Appropriately so, the Central girls swimming team used a speed boat adorned with balloons for their float. And a flatbed trailer carried members of Central's class of 1962 - comfortably seated in lawn chairs. The alumni were in town celebrating their 50th class reunion.

Cheerleaders, poms, band members and the color guard marched in between the floats. The boys' varsity basketball team walked the route, bouncing basketballs as one player carried a shortened basketball net on his back.

Several other student groups joined the festivities including the Latino Club and Tiger Leaders.

The floats were very impressive, and a sizable crowd lined Walkup Avenue and Williams Street to watch the festivities and catch candy.

The Tigers football team was facing Grayslake Central Friday night, and students will celebrate the weekend with a dance on Saturday night.
