STORY OF THE WEEK: Cary-Grove Football Games to Have Reserved Seating Area

Reserved seats will go for $15. General admission is $4.

Kevin O’Malley described getting off work last fall and rushing to Cary-Grove High School to get a seat to watch his son play football. Territories in the stands were marked off with blankets.

O’Malley, president of the Cary-Grove Football Association, said the general admission for football games is $4. But he thinks many parents and fans would pay $15 for a seat in a blanket-free reserved area.

Cary-Grove High School’s home bleachers hold about 4,000.  This season about 200 to 300 seats – a block in the middle of the bleachers – will be reserved.

“It’s designed to keep families together,” O’Malley said. “This is a pilot program. We got the idea from Lake Zurich High School.  Cary-Grove will be the model for the other three high schools in District 155 if it works. We hope that all goes well and we don’t make anyone angry.”

Tickets for reserving seats at Cary-Grove High School football games are available, officials announced this week.

“Actually, we have been asking for this for several years and are very happy it has finally been accepted by the school and District 155,” said Sue Mago, a booster club member.

“Yes, it is a fundraising effort, but it also eliminates the scrambling of parents marking their seat territories.”

The deadline for reserving tickets is Aug. 10. Tickets will be available for pickup Aug. 17 at a scrimmage game.

  • St. Charles East, Aug. 24
