Meet the Crystal Lake South Girls Volleyball Team; Good Luck at State!
The Crystal Lake South Girls Varsity Volleyball team is heading to Illinois State University on Thursday to compete in the IHSA Class 4A state semifinals in Friday.
The Crystal Lake South Girls Varsity Volleyball team is heading to state today, Thursday, Nov. 14.
The Gators are scheduled to play in the state semifinals game on Friday at Illinois State University in Normal. The squad is comprised of five seniors, nine juniors, and four sophomores.
Crystal Lake South has not had a state contender in volleyball since 1996, Head Coach Jorie Fontana said. Fontana, who played for Jacobs High School and Loyola University before becoming a teacher, said the team's trip to state this weekend is the fitting end to the season.
"This is the perfect place for these girls to be considering how hard they worked, how talented they are and the goals they set for themselves," Fontana said. "Most of them have been together for a long time, and some also play other sports, like basketball, together, too."
