Lockdown Drills for Prairie Ridge, Central Won't Have Gunfire Sounds

Lockdown drills are planned for Tuesday at Prairie Ridge and Crystal Lake Central high schools in Crystal Lake.

Crystal Lake Central and Prairie Ridge high schools are scheduled to conduct  annual lockdown drills on Tuesday, but theirs won't include simulated gunfire sounds, the Northwest Herald reports.

The two schools are the last in District 155 to conduct the drill for students. Crystal Lake South held its drill before winter break, and Cary-Grove conducted its drill two weeks ago, which included two school officials shooting off blanks. The inclusion of the gunfire sounds drew media attention from throughout Chicagoland.

Letters to parents from Central and PR specifically state simulated gunfire will not be a part of the drill, the Herald reports. Cary-Grove's choice to include the gunfire sounds did not impact this decision, the story states. Crystal Lake Police officers will be present at both schools on Tuesday to help with the drills, expected to last about 15 minutes.
