Deer Path Students Collecting Gift Cards for Hurricane Sandy Victims

Cary students involved with Deer Path's "Service Over Self Club" are collecting the cards to send to victims in Oceanside, New Jersey.

 

Deer Path Elementary School students in Cary are reaching out to help students in Oceanside, New Jersey who were impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

Members of the school's Service Over Self Club are collecting donations for Hurricane Sandy victims in the form of gift cards. The club is seeking gift cards from Walmart, Target, Lowe's and Home Depot.

Gift cards can be dropped off in the school’s office through Friday, Dec. 7.

Deer Path Elementry is located at 2211 Crystal Lake Road, Cary.

Students in the Service Over Self Club also are making cards and a craft to send to Oceanside students. Many schools in that area were damaged, or destroyed by the storm last month. The students have been displaced, according to a press release from the school.

The Deer Path project is part of the "Schools Adopting Schools" program created by New Yorker, Julie Bergin, the release stated.
