Four Crystal Lake elementary schools and one junior high school received high honors from the Illinois State Board of Education this week.
Glacier Ridge Elementary School, Indian Prairie Elementary School, Prairie Grove Elementary School, Prairie Grove Junior High School and South Elementary School were among the 454 Illinois schools to be named to the Illinois Honor Roll and chosen for a 2012 Academic Excellence Award.
The schools honored all sustained high academic performances over the past three years.
According to the Illinois State Board of Education, schools who receive the Academic Excellence Award must have at least 90 percent of elementary and middle students meeting or exceeding state standards in reading and math for three straight years.
In 2012, 94 percent of the 531 students met or exceeded standards on the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT), according to the ISBE website.
"Schools that receive Academic Excellence Awards tend to remain on the honor roll year after year, and many of them raise their level of performance," according to the ISBE's Illinois Honor Roll website.
