CEA: 'We Are Relieved to Bring Closure to Negotiations'

The teachers' union hopes the agreement will reduce class sizes and bring back special programs.

and the Cary Education Association ratified a three-year collective bargaining agreement after nearly one-year of negotiating.

“We are relieved to bring closure to negotiations," Julia Curry and Elaine O’Donnell, Cary Education Association Co-presidents, said in a press release. "We are proud of the hard work from our negotiation team for the past year. We are also proud of our CEA members." 

Even though the negotiation process was drawn out while school was in session, teachers have kept their focus to provide a quality education to students, the email said.

"Not one day went by that the members did not put the students first before themselves," the co-presidents said.

The CEA said they are committed to the same goal.

“It is time to recognize that the CEA is committed to and has contributed to helping put the district on a more stable financial footing by agreeing to concessions in salary and benefits in order to reinstate special programs and reduce class size," the press release said.   

"It is now time to move ahead and focus on educational priorities for this District.”
