Cary, Prairie Grove Prep for New School Year

Classes for Cary Community Consolidated District 26 and Prairie Grove District 46 begin tomorrow, Wednesday, Aug. 22.

The first full day of school is one day away for the approximately 3,000 students in kindergarten through eighth grade at Cary Community Consolidated District 26.

Classes in , in Crystal Lake, start tomorrow as well, where teachers will begin the second consecutive "first day of school" without a finalized contract with the district.

Educators have already been back to the classrooms, preparing for the start of the upcoming school year. Monday and Tuesday were school institute days for District 26 and 46, during which staff spent many hours in meetings.

At Three Oaks Elementary School, 1514 Three Oaks Rd., Cary, instructors were awaiting the arrival of students and parents for "Back to School Night." Held from 6 to 7:30 p.m., the event allows students to drop off school supplies, meet their teachers, locate their desks and lockers.

Teachers were busy piling those stacks of important papers - that all need signatures - atop the desks. First-grade teacher Elizabeth Schneider said every new school year is exciting - for staff and students.

"It is exciting, and it's very busy," Schneider said. "We get students signing up even on the first day of school."
