Cary-Grove Trojans Finish 2nd in State

Two undefeated teams met for the Class 6A IHSA state championship game in Champaign. In the end, the Crete-Monee Warriors edged out the Cary-Grove Trojans 33-26.

 

Months of hard work, preparation, hopes and thrills ended today when Cary-Grove narrowly was defeated by Crete-Monee at the Illinois High School Association's state football championship game in Champaign, Ill.

The Trojans' bid for a second state title in the past four years fell one touchdown short as the Crete-Monee Warriors beat Cary-Grove 33-26 at the University of Illinois stadium.

Both squads entered the state finals with solid 13-0 season records.

And while it may take the coaches, players and Trojan Superfans some time to bounce back from the disappointment of the loss, the 2012 CG team will always be revered with respect and admiration.

Only a handful of athletes have the privilege of saying - for their rest of their lives - "Our team went to state."

Cary-Grove's squad of 85 - who practiced all this past week including Thanksgiving Day to prepare for today's showdown - provided fans with an exciting and unforgettable season.

Every touchdown, tackle, sack and completed pass gave reason to cheer and scream - and paint oneself purplish-blue!

So, thanks to a great season Trojans ....Congratulations on all you accomplished this year!
