Village Board Tackles Weekly Agenda

Plans made for new tree replacement program

The Cary Village Board spent its Jan. 18 board meeting discussing several items which they will be exploring in the coming month.

Among the items that will be discussed in committee meetings in the coming weeks are a business incentive program which will allow the village to play a role in getting residents to shop locally.

The board also approved a 50/50 cost sharing program which will allow for the replacement of trees destroyed by the Emerald Ash Borer.

The Village is still working to obtain grant money for the program to replace parkway Ash trees through the Morton Arboretum.

If the funds are granted it could pay for the village’s share of the program. As a result the board will discuss at budget time whether $10,000 or $20,000 will be budgeted for the program.

The board also received an update from Village Administrator Cameron Davis on how much of the money budgeted for overtime to cover plowing and salting has been used. To date, $21,000 has been spent of the $52,000 budgeted for this winter.

“(It’s) already on the high side for this time of year,” Davis said. “Typically, this is when the bad weather really hits.”
