New Pedestrian Beacon Installed on Pingree Road

In an effort to improve safety, a pedestrian crossing beacon has been installed on Pingree Road at the intersection of Grandview Drive, according to a city of Crystal Lake press release.

The pedestrian beacon is meant to help people crossing Pingree Road to get to the Metra station and other destinations. The city has received several requests from residents who wanted an improved pedestrian crossing in that area.

The beacon is activated by a push button. When a pedestrian activates the beacon, lights begin to flash and the pedestrian can proceed across the road.

Drivers are reminded to stop for pedestrians when they see the flashing lights.

The city has installed similar pedestrian beacons in four other locations throughout the city:

  • Main Street at the the Three Oak Recreation Area entrance
  • Crystal Lake Avenue near Hannah Beardsley Middle School
  • Pingree Road at the intersection of Three Oaks Road
  • McHenry Avenue near Husmann Elementary School
