Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Here is a list of offices, government facilities that are opened, or closed on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013.
Crystal Lake Public Library, 126 Paddock St., is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The library's Winter Reading Program kicks off on Monday. The staff has scheduled several for the "Schools Out" day:
- LEGO event from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. during which children and their parents (or caregivers) can stay as long as they wish.
- Free drop-in crafts event from 3:30 to 5 p.m. for kindergarteners-3rd grade, and 3rd through 5th graders.
- Chicago Wolves Hockey player Mark Matheson appearance as part of the "Read to Succeed Program." Matheson arrives at 7 p.m., and will talk abou this childhood in Calgary, Alberta, Canada; his hockey career; and how reading has impacted his life. He'll also sign autographs and pose for pictures.
Cary Public Library, 1606 Three Oaks Rd., will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday. It's also the last day for patrons to register for Winter Reading. A family drop-in stroytime is scheduled from 10:30 to 11 a.m., which includes stories, puppets and more. Make sure you register for your free tickets, which can be picked up at 9:40 a.m.
100 W. Woodstock St., Crystal Lake, will be open and MDC garbage removal and recycling services will run as normal.
Cary Village Hall, 655 Village Hall Dr., Cary, will be open and garbage removal and recycling service by Advanced Disposal will operate as usual.
Most other area businesses, restaurants and stores will be open for normal business hours on Monday.
Schools for the following districts: Crystal Lake District 47, Cary Community Consolidated School District 26, Prairie Grove School District 46, Fox River Grove School District 3, Community High School District 155, Community Unit School District 300 and Community School District 158.
All United State Post Offices will be closed on Monday. There is no regular mail delivery/pickup or retail services on postal holidays.
McHenry County facilities will be closed on Monday in observation of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, including the courthouse at 220 North Seminary Ave. in Woodstock and county administration building at 667 Ware Road in Woodstock.
Banks: MLK Day is considered a bank holiday, and most banks will be closed on Monday, including Chase Bank and U.S. Bank. Check with your financial institution to see if it is opened or closed.
