Election 2012: Illinois State House of Representatives District 64

Republican Barbara Wheeler is running uncontested in the newly redrawn 64th State Representatives District.

Republican candidate Barbara Wheeler is running unopposed for the Illinois State House of Representatives District 64th seat.

Wheeler's campaign slogan reads, "Proven leader and tax fighter." Wheeler was first elected to the McHenry County Board in 2002. She has lead initiatives for environmental issues, economic development, encouraging diverse housing options, and implementing ground water protection policies, according to her political bio.

"We must bring common-sense leadership to Springfield," Wheeler said in her campaign litterature. "The Democrats' 67-percent tax increase is not the answer - our state government has to learn to do more with less."

Wheeler said during her tenure on the McHenry County Board, the board's fiscal discipline helped balance the budget, which included a cash reserve and the highest possible "Aaa" bond rating.

"I will bring to Springfield my practical, responsible, cost-cutting policies that have served our local community so well," she said. "I will work to ensure that Illinois operates within its means, just as our families must do each day."

The newly redrawn 64th District encompasses portions of several communities including the north side of Crystal Lake, Bull Valley, eastern Woodstock, Prairie Grove, and parts of McHenry and Wonder Lake. The district, spreading northward, also encompasses parts of Wauconda, Volo, Johnsburg, Fox Lake and Spring Grove.

The Illinois State Board of Elections has a district locator.
