Illinois License Plates May Get Corporate Ads
State studies plan for advertising on vehicle plates as way to boost revenue.
Illinois is considering selling ads on license plates to corporate sponsors as a way to deal with the state deficit, according to the Chicago Tribune. Gov. Pat Quinn approved a study, Thursday, that will analyze the costs and benefits of corporate sponsors on license plates
Companies would pay to put their ads on the plates; the enticement for motorists would be a discount on the cost of the plates.

The Texas state government contracted with a third-party vendor, My Plates, to produce specialty license plates. A My Plates spokesperson told The State Journal-Register that the sale raised $51,805 for the state’s general revenue fund, so far.
