Cary, Crystal Lake: Holiday Lights Recycling Programs

Bring those old, broken or unwanted holiday lights to Crystal Lake City Hall for recycling through March 1.

You know, the strings where half the lights work?  Strands with lights that flicker on and off when you shake them, or twist them just the right way?

Perhaps it's time to part ways with those old, unwanted, or unused decorations. And the city of Crystal Lake and village of Cary can help.

From now through March 1, the city of Crystal Lake has partnered with Elgin Recycling to accept holiday lights for recycling, according to the city of Crystal Lake.

The recycling program accepts all holiday string lighting: mini lights (or Italian lights), C7 lights, C9 lights, rope lights, LED lights, extension cords, etc.  All colors and lengths will be accepted.

However, garland, live greens, wreaths or other non-recyclables can not be accepted.

Crystal Lake residents, drop those unwanted holiday lights from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at City Hall, 100 W. Woodstock Street.

Drop-off bins will be located in the city hall lobby next to the Finance/ Administration counter. More information is available by contacting the city at 815-459-2020.

Cary Village Hall

The village of Cary recently announced its holiday lights recycling program.

Holiday lights accepted include mini lights, C7, C9, rope lights, LED lights and extension cords, according to the village of Cary.

Items not be accepted include garland, live greens and wreaths.

Collection bins have been placed at the Cary Village Hall, 655 Village Hall Dr., the Public Works Department, the 400 Cary-Algonquin Rd., and the 441 W. Main St., Cary.
