Construction on Crystal Lake Avenue to Begin

Road improvement work on Crystal Lake Avenue expected to start June 25.

Construction of new road surface, curbs and sidewalks along Crystal Lake Avenue near East and Erick streets is expected to begin June 25.

The city is expanding on the previous improvements made on Crystal Lake Avenue from Pingree Road to Erick Street, near Hannah Beardsley Middle School.

Included in the $928,000 improvement project is an additional bi-directional turn lane, or middle lane, so homeowners can safely turn into their driveways, said Assistant City Engineer Abby Wilgreen.

“There’ll be new sidewalks, storm sewer, and water main lines,” Wilgreen said. “The pavement is deteriorating, and the turn lane will allow homeowners to have a safe area to get into their driveways.”

A concrete median near East Street and the Metra railroad tracks also will be built.

The city secured a federal grant from the Surface Transportation Program, which will pay 80-percent – or $742,000 - of the project. The work is expected to be completed in the fall, Wilgreen said.

Up-to-date information about the project is available on the Crystal Lake website.
