The McHenry County Conservation District will be hosting a candlelight cross-country ski event Friday and Saturday night at the Marengo Ridge Conservation Area.
The .5-mile trail at Marengo Ridge Conservation Area, which is located on Route 23 just north of River Road in Marengo, will be open and lit by candlelight from 5 to 9 p.m. both Friday and Saturday, according to a MCCD press release.
Attendees should bring their own skis and the event is free to the public. There will be hot chocolate and a campfire available after the cross-country ski event.
Through March 10, solar-lit trails will be available until 9 p.m. everyday at: Pleasant Valley Conservation Area in Woodstock, (1/2 mile loop through prairie) and at Hickory Grove Highlands in Cary (a 1-mile looped trail through the wooded savanna).
After March 10, the sites will close at dusk.
