Cary Trustees Plans to Begin Economic Development Committee

A new economic development committee aims to bring more businesses to Cary.

Cary Trustees began talks about restarting the economic development committee, in efforts to look for ideas to bring more business to Cary.

Cary Trustee Robert Bragg said he's looking for a core group of people to join the committee.

It can be a mixture of trustees, community members and business owners, he said.

Cary Trustee Rick Dudek said he supports the idea and asked Jacob Rife, assistant to the village administrator for development, to reach out to his counterparts in other towns to see what their objectives are.

"It would be good to have a leg up on our competition," Dudek said.

Cary Trustee Bruce Kaplan said our demographic, geographic location and our traffic counts will dictate what type of business we attract to Cary.

"Not sure how much we can do," Cary Trustee Ray Chisholm said. "Surrounding areas have empty buildings as well."

He said businesses aren't going to come unless they know they will make a profit.

Trustee Dudek said the committee's success will depend on the effort of the people within the committee.

"I would like to see this move forward within the next 90 days," Dudek said.
