Cary Trustee Wants Formal Vote on 'Title 2' Changes

Cary Village Board will discuss and possibly take action on whether to review changes to the title 2 village municipal code.

Cary is looking for a new village administrator but some of the Cary Trustees are looking to change the roles of the village administrator.

The Cary Administration and Development committee met Tuesday evening to continue a discussion about village codes concerning the position of the Mayor, village employees’ and the village administrator.

Cary Trustee Robert Bragg, who has been the head proponent of the changes to the title 2 municipal code, wants village department heads to be accountable to the board of trustees and believes the village administrator is a department head.

However, Cary Trustee Rick Dudek raised the concern that there hasn’t been a formal vote from the full Cary Village Board about if they want to review ‘title two.’

“I’m not comfortable with the fact if we even have a clear direction from the majority of the board,” Dudek said.

Dudek said if the board votes in favor of reviewing “title two,” he would like the board to decide what type of changes they want to pursuer and have the village attorney involved early on in the process.

The village board has discussed changes of the village codes at a village board meeting but has not taken a vote on whether to review or pursue changes of the codes.

With the list of changes in Bragg’s proposal, Cary Trustee Jeff Kraus said he was unsure on how the board was planning on voting on the changes, would it be by mass or line by line.

“We never had a framework for moving this forward,” Dudek said.

The village board will discuss and possibly take action on the title two issue at the next village board meeting at 7 p.m., Aug. 16, located at Cary Village Hall, 655 Village Hall Dr.
