Cary Village Board Approves 2012-13 Budget

The budget fiscal year begins May 1, 2012 and ends April 30, 2013.

After three budget workshops, lasting about 12 hours each, the produced a budget that's balanced, maintained core services and invests in Cary's future. 

In a 7-0 vote, Cary trustees approved the 2012-13 budget, with revenues projected to be $14.7 million and $17.8 million in expenditures.

The difference of $3.1 million, which is from other funds in the village, will be used for capital projects, which includes improving roadways, community development professional services, police vehicles, new carpeting and a new phone system for Village Hall.

Chris Clark, village administrator said at the first budget workshop, the village was projecting a $100,000 deficit but the efforts of the staff and trustees, they worked together to find ways to bid out services and share service costs with other communities.

For the first in recent history, Clark said the village is able to invest in the economic development program, in efforts to retain businesses and attract businesses to vacate parcels. The village has budgeted $100,000 for the economic development program, .

Village staff has been directed to develop a budget process that will go beyond one-year projections and hopefully include a two-to-three year budget plan.
