Funds Awarded for McHenry Co. Road Improvements

The following information comes from a press release from the Office of Gov. Pat Quinn. 

Gov. Pat Quinn announced that $6.9 million would be awarded for construction projects in McHenry and Lake counties, including one road project in Algonquin. 

Bunker Hill Drive in Algonquin will be improved from Square Barn Road to Saratoga Circle by J.A. Johnson Paving Company of Arlington Heights, the lowest of five bidders at $1,027,227, according to a press release from the Office of the Gov. Pat Quinn. The work includes new pavement, curb and gutter, brick pavers and driveway replacement.    

The project, along with a handful of other projects, will be funded by Quinn's Illinois Jobs Now! construction program.

“These projects will improve traffic flow and safety in Lake and McHenry Counties, which benefits everyone,” Governor Quinn said. “The projects will also employ a number of construction workers, which will drive local economies forward.”

The projects will be managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Here is a look at other projects that will be funded in McHenry County:

  • Work on Jandus Cut Off Road in the Village of Cary will be completed for $1,537,398 by Alliance Contractors, Inc. of Woodstock, the lowest of seven bidders. The work involves excavation, pavement, curb and gutter, retaining wall, lighting and traffic signal modifications.
  • A box culvert will be replaced that carries a local road over Mokeler Creek south of Illinois Route 173 in Harvard. Sjostrom & Sons, Inc. of Rockford was the lowest of seven bidders at $492,950. "Repair of our bridges is crucial,” State Senator Melinda Bush (D-Grayslake) said. “Timely investments like these prevent future tragedies.”

Here is a look at projects that will be funded in Lake County:

  • The bridge carrying Illinois Route 132 (Grand Avenue) over the Des Plaines River in Gurnee will be rehabilitated. The work will involve the bridge superstructure and substructure. Dunnet Bay Construction Company of Glendale Heights was the lowest of three bidders at $2,502,608.
  • Illinois Route 131 in Zion, Benton and Newport townships will be resurfaced from Rosecrans Road to Russell Road. Payne & Dolan, Inc. of Waukesha, Wisconsin was the lowest of four bidders for the work at $1,183,523.
  • McGinty Bros., Inc. of Long Grove received the contract to perform tree pruning, removal and landscaping on Illinois Route 22 from Route 21 to I-94. Their bid of $167,321 was the lowest of four submitted.
