Howard and Hillary don't have a clue who Mitt Romney is, and they aren't registered voters, either.
They're not even human beings.
Yet, the two Basett Hounds and thousands of canines throughout the country have been leashed into the 2012 presidential race for the White House in quite an unsuspecting way.
The on-line movement, Dogs Against Romney is a growing coalition of pet-lovers who are appalled by the Romney family's recounting of their 1983 vacation to Canada.
Romney, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, planned to stop once for gasoline during the trip, according to the Dogs Against Romney website.
The story, as reported by the Boston Globe in 2007, said Mitt put their Irish Setter, Seamus, into a crate and strapped crate - and dog - to the top of the car.
They then proceeded on a 12-hour drive to Canada.
However, the Romneys were forced to stop when Seamus suffered a bad case of diarrhea that began streaming down the car windows, the newspaper reported. Mitt Romney pulled over to hose off the car - and the dog. After the cleaning, the family hit the road again, the "Dogs Against Romney" website states.
"I thought what he did to his dog was mean," said Crystal Lake resident Cindi Carlson, proud owner of Howard and Hillary.
Carlson was so disgusted by the story, she went on-line and ordered the sign now displayed in her front lawn, which is located in the older section of Crystal Lake.
"Dogs Against Romney" signs, bumper stickers and buttons are popping up all over the country. The "Dogs Against Romney," organization, founded in 2007, advertises many of those campaign materials. Proof of the group's growing support: the "Dogs Against Romney" Facebook page has 63,357 "likes."
That's a lot of "likes" for a story many people don't like.
"I can't believe someone would treat their dog like that," Carlson said.
As a dog lover and parent, i admire the fact that this guy, with a lot of money, was DRIVING his family for vacation.. the old fashion way. Can you envision the Obamas ever taking a long trip in a car? Me neither. But enough of that. What these dogs should know is that Romney actually saved a dog from a lake once.. the owner's boat capsized and Romney had the presence of mind to get out there and help save them. Not too many dogs have heard the story. http://www.dailynewstranscript.com/news/x1128483358?zc_p=0#axzz1l9jpsMrS Another story that many people haven't heard about is that back in the evil, evil, Bain Capital days, the 14 yr old daughter of one of Romney's business associates disappeared after a 'rave' concert in New York City. Romney stopped all operations at Bain Capital. He flew all of the employees to NYC to help find the girl. They set up an office...they walked around and hung up posters. They found the girl. The girl's father says that Romney saved her life. I hope that the 'dogs against Romney' hear these stories... i doubt they will. Their owner's have a political narrative to adhere to and this does not fit.
And what about shutting down Bain Capital to find the daughter of an employee? See, to me, these are true demonstrations of a man's character. And also, do you know how silly you sound trying to make Dad Romney look like a monster by "smashing their faces in a butter stick"? c'mon. Romney's kids all love and respect him and seem to be well adjusted adults who did not suffer mental damage by Dad's prank on them. lighten up a little bit and try to look at the other side of things. And how stupid is it that some adult set up a Facebook page for "dogs against Romney"? really?
the one that the media talks about or the one that they don't, where he saw a boat capsized out in the lake and the people (AND THEIR DOG) yelling for help and Romney went out there to save them? see, the legacy media operates this way...sometimes it's not about what they talk about..it's about what they don't talk about. I agree. The dog story (and the story about Romney shutting down Bain Capital in the middle of the work week and flying all of its employees to NYC to help find a missing daughter of one of the workers) is about character.
Romney actually saved a dog that was drowning.. have you heard that one on ABC, NBC or CBS? uh...no. doesn't fit the narrative, does it?
